- Loose stools and diarrhea
When the water content in stools abnormally increases and stools become watery or near watery, it is known as “diarrhea”. When stools are softer than usual, it is called “loose stools”. When diarrhea or loose stools occur repeatedly and abdominal discomfort or pain accompanies it, it is called diarrhea or diarrheal disorder.
Ideal stools are a banana shape and contain about 70-80% water. If the water content in stools increases to 80-90%, it is called loose stools. If the water content in stools exceeds 90%, it is called diarrhea.

When the intestinal track functions abnormally, diarrhea occurs.
The normal contraction of the intestinal track is called peristalsis which carries contents in the intestines to the anus. Water contained in such contents will be absorbed by the human body when passing through the intestines, and such contents become stools containing adequate water.
At this moment, if the intestinal track contracts too much as a result of a particular reason, or when there is a problem in water regulation, the water content in stools will increase, thus causing diarrhea or loose stools.
When the intestinal track overly-contracts, the contents in the intestines will pass through faster, and water inside these contents cannot be absorbed effectively.
As a result, watery stools occur, thus causing diarrhea or loose stools.
